Akita Day 1!

We arrived in the evening just in time for the Namahage festival. Namahage are mythical demonlike ogres that only exist in Oga city, Akita prefecture. In modern times they're used to scare children into behaving, so they would go around the festival shouting things like "Are there any crybabies here?!" And "Are there any naughty children here?!" lololol omg I felt so bad for the little babies because they were so terrified!!

One of the namahage went all ogre on us and hit our camera and broke the screen, but thanks to Patreon we got a second camera a while back (you don't even know how useful that's been for us!!) so we have a spare one, but still that sucks. It saves us a lot of time having two cameras to film because Jun and I can each get different angles or different spots at places and we finish filming earlier. We're really disappointed one is broken now but hopefully it won't take too long to get it fixed. Last time our camera broke they didn't send it back for like three months!! (That's when we bought our spare.)

The weather has changed to slightly above freezing so now everything is rain. It was verrrrry rainy. Rachel is not a fan of getting wet. Poor Jun's shoes got completely soaked, but there was a huge bonfire in the middle of the festival so we spent most our time standing near that! They had firefighters attending it the whole time in their full on fire resistant HAZMAT-esque suits.

We also ran into a few people who recognized us, which was a lot of fun! :D

We ate at a kiritanpo restaurant that night, which is the famous food of Akita (supposedly). Kiritanpo is a rice... tube? It's the consistency of half mochi/half rice, and you put it in a nabe pot. It's aight. Jun also considers it aight. It literally tastes like rice, kind of mushed together.

Once again I took no pictures, so here are a couple from Chris! And the food picture shows kiritanpo but that's actually a different restaurant we are at later... It's that white chunky thing in the upper left part of the udon bowl!
